It is possible to hide your batter's head and eye gear while playing matches.
By default, the helmet/hair/hat, and goggles/mask/glasses you have equipped will display in the game unless you have a batter style outfit equipped on your character.

You can hide them from view without losing stats applied to your character by tapping on the small button on the top-right corner of the gear slot. Toggle green to display, and gray to hide the selected gear.
